Surfing the Web On a PC Without An OS
ASUS P5E3 Deluxe Motherboard
Remember talking about the Linux BIOS project in a previous meeting? Well if you dont, the Linux BIOS is just that.. a Linux kernel that does the same function as your BIOS (replaces your BIOS). It's only supported by certain motherboards at this point, but as always that expands very quickly. Some people were even installing TinyX into the BIOS chip so that they had an instant on X server right in the BIOS. Well I'm not sure this motherboard uses the Linux BIOS project at all, but it's very similar. The second link states that the board has an "optional Linux OS" right on the board that can have you surfing the net in 5 seconds. Pretty impressive indeed. I might buy one of these boards just to see what they've done. If anyone else buys one, please bring it in to show and tell. The motherboard also has some digital fine tuning of the power supply which is supposed to make it very energy efficient (another big plus).
