What about turning off the backlight on your laptop monitor? Check out the xset command. And remember to read the MAN page unless you are a 'girly man'. Then you can cry to somebody.

  1. Try xset dpms force off s 10000000
  2. Don't worry it will come back when you touch the key or the mouse
  3. If that does not work try:
    'xset dpms force off s reset'
    then back to step 1
