In the case that you either have a server that has gone down and need an emergency stand-in or if you just have an extra machine laying around and you need some server, but you don't want to take the time to install an OS, Knoppix can be a huge timesaver.

For example we can create a Window$/Samba fileserver with very minimal effort.

Now you should be able to view the //knoppix/knoppix Window$ share on the network from any of your Window$ machines.

Tip: If you are only using this machine as a file server, you'd get better performance from it if you boot Knoppix with "knoppix 2 lang=us" (console only mode) and then run "sambastart start" from the command line.
