Knoppix Stuff

Knoppix has a set of "cheat codes" that allow you to do various things with it. For a complete list of cheat codes and their explanations go here. With the knowledge of these cheat codes and the software included on the CD, you should never work on a computer without having one of these CDs in yor bag.

Note: don't forget from the first meeting, the most important cheat code "lang=us" unless, of course, your native tongue is German.

Machine is acting generally unpredictable (reboots etc.)

• type memtest at the Knoppix boot prompt.
• usually a couple of passes will reveal bad memory.. the full test can take a while.

Forgot a Window$ Password.. or never knew it ;-)

• Boot Knoppix normally.
• Run chntpw. Reboot into Window$ and use your new password. Go here for detailed instructions.
